About the Book

“You are not the brightest of my four sons”…and other depressing things that have been said to me. is the remarkable, candid story of successful entrepreneur and depression-sufferer John Shuchart.

A victim of his parents’ verbal and emotional abuse from infancy, John was diagnosed with clinical depression following a traumatic car accident in March of 2000. He suffered through 17 surgeries, an addiction to painkillers, and a relentless battle with depression before finding an approach that works for him: using humor to reframe the depression-inducing episodes from his past.

This book is part of the author’s effort to help combat the stigma associated wTOCith mental illness. By boldly stepping forward to share his experiences and discuss his depression, John wants to create a safer, more open environment for others to reveal their own battles with mental illness and gain understanding and acceptance.

John’s story offers a ray of hope for those suffering from depression, gives genuine encouragement for their loved ones, and provides inspiration for all of us.
